SB359, the Flouridation bill, will mandate the fluoridation of all Arkansas public water systems in cities with a population of over 5000. The Bill passed in the House and Senate and has been signed by the Governor of Arkansas.
The people of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Fort Smith, Arkansas, voted to not have fluoride added to their Public Water Supply in past years. This was a vote seriously considered at the time. State and city representatives brought this fact before the House committee reviewing Senate Bill 359 at the Arkansas capitol this past week on 3.01.11, requesting of them, in view of the people’s voice on the issue, to amend the cities out of the bill. The committee refused and the people’s “vote” was discounted as null and void.
I understand that this is an issue that has great debate. The opposition to fluoridation is not something that has no scientific merit, though, as was directly implied at the House committee meeting as so stated in news releases at the time.
The research of US scientists and doctors, and of those world-wide bring to question a practice that has continued for so long. Many esteemed scientists, doctors, professors, and Nobel Laureates, all with most impressive credentials, have submitted research on the subject, and have spoken out and challenged the continued practice of adding fluoride to public water supplies.

Even as far back as 1936, there were concerns expressed by the ADA and AMA regarding fluoridation:
The Journal of the American Dental Association said (in 1936), "Fluoride at the 1 ppm [part per million] concentration is as toxic as arsenic and lead… There is an increasing volume of evidence of the injurious effects of fluorine, especially the chronic intoxication resulting from the ingestion of minute amounts of fluorine over long periods of time."
The Journal of the American Medical Association" noted (in its September 18, 1943 issue), "Fluorides are general protoplasmic poisons, changing the permeability of the cell membrane by certain enzymes."
"We do know that the use of drinking water containing as little as 1.2 to 3.0 parts per million of fluorine will cause such developmental disturbances in bones as osteosclerosis, spondylosis and osteopetrosis, as well as goiter, and we cannot afford to run the risk of producing such serious systemic disturbances in applying what is at present a doubtful procedure intended to prevent development of dental disfigurements." —Journal of the American Dental Association, October 1944
These are just three of so many similar quotes. Numerous recent scientific studies and research concur with these same findings of so many years ago. The research continues to be brought to the public.
Wishing you well…
