Has Fluoride Been Sufficiently Tested?

Has Fluoride been sufficiently tested? According to the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services in its Toxicological Profile on Fluoride (TP91/7-1993):

"Existing data indicate that subsets of the populations may be unusually sensitive to the toxic effects of fluoride and its compounds. These populations include the elderly, people with deficiencies of calcium, magnesium and/or vitamin C, and people with cardiovascular and kidney problems, pregnant women, fetuses, children. Postmenopausal women and elderly men in fluoridated communities may also be at risk of fractures."

Interesting isn't it? This is a substance that is mandated by legislative vote to be added to our public water supplies. A vast majority of people in some communities are now reaching Boomer status and/or are elderly. Fluoride added to the municipal water system may drastically affect this cross section of the population.  So many are on dialysis, as well. It's time to stop and rethink the act of mandating fluoridation.

Attention Ladies: Premature Aging and Fluoride

Who wants to age faster?

Dr. John Yiamouyiannis was
the world's leading authority on the biological effects of fluoride. His formal education included a B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D in biochemistry from the University of Rhode Island. He wrote the book, "Fluoride: The Aging Factor."  It is a very good book on the effects of fluoride in the body and how it contributes to aging-yes, aging! Is there fluoride in your water?

Numerous other doctors around the world, besides Dr. Yiamouyiannis,  have discovered the damage that fluoride can do and how it contributes to aging: As little as 1 part per million fluoride disrupts the synthesis of collagen in bone, tendon, muscle, skin, cartilage, lung, kidney,....

During the aging process, cumulative damage to cells leads to the diseases attributed to "old age" - arthritis, arteriosclerosis, brittle bones, wrinkled skin, etc. According to many experts, the consumption of fluoride produces the same effects and results in the same diseases.

Premature aging is something that no one wants.  Yet, the majority of the population is getting fluoride in their city water supply. It's in your canned goods and many juices since they are prepared with fluoridated city water. The body absorbs it while you and your children/grandchildren bathe in fluoridated water. It affects plant life in your garden, too, when you water your garden.

Aging and Fluoride...  Get the book to learn more. It is something we all want to be aware of since we are exposed to fluoride more and more in our everyday environment.

Have a great day,
Stephen

The Pesticide Cryolite: Contains Fluoride & Sprayed on Many of Your Favorite Foods!

Many of our favorite food crops are sprayed with cryolite which adds to the problem of fluoride overload, according to the new book, Thyroid Mind Power, co-authored by Dr. Richard Shames, M.D.

What is cryolite?

Cryolite  is a pesticide that contains  fluoride! It was first registered as a pesticide in the U.S. in 1957. According to the article in the First for Women magazine, the EPA has received petitions by health advocacy groups and, according to the article, says it will plan to phase out cryolite. However, until that happens, because the phase out could literally take years to go into effect and foods are still being added to their list of those on which it is or will be used, Dr. Shames recommends that people buy organic fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, strawberries, and potatoes which all have softer skins that can absorb the chemical more readily.

The EPA fact sheet says:

EPA has determined that the following uses of cryolite have been
supported and are eligible for registration: broccoli, Brussels sprouts,
cabbage, cauliflower, citrus fruits, collards, cranberries, cucumbers,
eggplant, grapes, kohlrabi, lettuce (leaf and head), melons, peaches,
peppers, plums (fresh prunes), pumpkins, squash (winter and summer),
tomatoes, kiwi, potatoes, ornamental herbaceous plants, ...
The use on strawberries is being supported but there are no residue data at
this time upon which to base an eligibility decision...

Tolerance levels proposed for cryolite from the Cyrolite Task Force to the EPA:

(1) Increasing the established tolerances for residues of the insecticidal fluorine compounds cryolite and /or synthetic cryolite in or on the agricultural commodities as listed below;
(2) establishing separate tolerances for the residues in or on head and leaf lettuce; and
(3) establishing tolerances for the residues in the processed foods, raisins at 55 ppm, and tomato paste at 45 ppm.

Commodity Current Proposed

cabbage 7 ppm       45 ppm
citrus fruits 7 ppm   95 ppm!
collards 7 ppm        35 ppm
eggplant 7 ppm      30 ppm
lettuce 7 ppm
lettuce, head         180 ppm!
lettuce, leaf              40 ppm
peaches 7 ppm      10 ppm
raisins none           55 ppm
tomatoes 7 ppm    30 ppm
tomato paste none 45 ppm

Wow-The current level is none to 7 PPM. Those are drastic proposed increases in allowed levels especially for lettuce and citrus fruits! Citrus fruits are routinely made into juice that is often consumed on a daily basis. And, how many children regularly snack on raisins?

Many vineyards extensively use this chemical on their grape crops. It would be better to buy domestic organic wines or wines from Europe where this pesticide is rarely used. Note the following...
Federal Register: July 6, 2000:  California wineries with export markets have advised their growers that they will not accept grapes which have been treated with cryolite or any other product which would affect the level of fluorides in wine. The European Community recently established strict tolerance levels of 1 ppm with respect to fluoride residues. There is a direct correlation between even limited use of cryolite on wine grapes which can result in fluoride levels in wine above 3 ppm.

I'll post more info in the coming weeks on this. There some other pesticides that use fluoride, too. It gets interesting as to the sources from which fluoride can reach us and that few people are aware.

Wishing you a great day,

Stephen

"Researchers from California State University in Fresno conducted a 5 year study (1990-1994) on vineyards throughout the San Joaquin Valley. They found that '[m]ultiple applications of Cryolite during the growing season significantly increase fluoride in wines.' Notably they found fluoride levels between 3 - 6 ppm in Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Thompson Seedless, Barbera, Muscat Candi, Ruby Cabernet; and levels between 6 - <9 ppm in French Colombard and Zinfandel... At 6 ppm one glass of wine (175 ml) would have delivered as much fluoride as about a liter of optimally fluoridated water!" - Connett E, Connett P. Fluoride Overload? Can It Affect You?

We have a great many cities that are adding fluoride to their city water supplies because legislators say children are not getting enough in order to have healthy teeth. But could it be in truth, that we may be overloading our bodies instead? Can we even overload on fluoride? Many experts feel that this we definitely can.

This was discussed in this week's First for Women Magazine, July 16, 2011 issue. Go get yours today before they're all gone. So many are suffering from fluoride overload and it's affecting their thyroid. Read the article in its entirety, and it will definitely give you another perspective to the Fluoride debate. What are some of the findings mentioned?

1. Today's Americans ingest four times as much fluoride as we did in the 1940's.
2. Fluoride is, also, in sodas, soups, and so many other foods that the majority of the populace ingests and that is why the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states that nearly 200 million Americans are exposed to high levels. All this exposure is causing havoc on the thyroid, according to Dr. Richard Shames, M.D., co- author of Thyroid Mind Power.

Dr. Shames says that so many people do not know of the  thyroid-fluoride link that can lead to fatigue, muscle pain, nausea, brain fog, headaches, etc. And, most doctors don't recognize that the symptoms of irritability, weight gain and depression are associated to this link. Instead, it's attributed to aging or to other problems such as fibromyalgia.

According the CDC, only 2 mg of fluoride a day is recommended for prevention of teeth decay. Americans get 3 times that amount per day, much more than the recommended dosage. What is recommended that you do? Cut back! Don't use fluoridated tooth paste. Limit black and green tea since it harbors 2 mg. per cup, etc.

There are so many canned foods, juices, and other prepared, consumable products in our stores that people ingest routinely everyday made with water containing fluoride. Produce is grown in soil that contains fluoride-however, that's another post. Fluoride is in the environment.

All this potentially causes an overload.  We may have to view the issue from a different standpoint to protect the population, not expose it to more fluoride. It's something to seriously consider in light of all the new information that is being made public, and the cities that are preparing to add fluoride to their municipal water supply systems within the next 12 to 24 months or sooner.

Have a great day,
Stephen

"Since [the 1940s], the percent of individuals consuming fluoridated water (in the US) has steadily increased. The increase in percentage of communities with fluoridated water has resulted in an increase in the mean content of fluoride not only in soft drinks and fruit juices, but in canned goods (notably soups), leading to increased intake of fluoride by individuals in communities with nonfluoridated water." - Fomon SJ, Ekstrand J, Ziegler EE. "Food processing often concentrates fluoride, and foods processed with fluoridated water typically have
higher fluoride concentrations than foods processed with non-fluoridated water... A study that found
marked differences between cereaals processed in fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas showed that
cereals processed in a fluoridated area had fluoride concentrations ranging from 3.8 ppm to 6.3 ppm..."Warren JJ Levy SM. (2003). Current and future role of fluoride in nutrition. Dental Clinics of North America 47: 225-43.

David S. Banks, DDS, dental practitioner for 35 years, Member International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, San Marcos, CA: “With decay rates in non fluoridated areas the same or less than fluoridated communities and with ample evidence of increased risk of bone, bladder, lung and oral cancer associated with fluoridation, it is senseless and morally wrong to force fluoridation on innocent populations."

Fluoride Spill at Water Facility

Accidents can happen and does as can be seen in the following video from Rock Island, IL:

ROCK ISLAND—
It was just before one o'clock Thursday afternoon when hazmat crews were called to the Rock Island water treatment plant for a chemical spill coming from a tanker truck.

"It's a corrosive agent that the water treatment plant uses, overflow caused spillage out of the building onto driveway behind me" said Rock Island assistant fire chief Jeff Yerkey.

As plant employees evactuated, crews began suiting up, working quickly to stop the leak that had begun eating through concrete.

"They stopped the leak using some earthen berms, dirt, sand and commercial boom equipment. We had it pretty much contained to this facility within a short amount of time" said Yerkey.

The chemical, Hydrofluorosilicic acid is used to add fluoride to the plant's water..."

How Much Fluoride Is the Public Getting?

Arkansas House and Senate Passes SB359, The Fluoridation Bill- Signed by Governor 3-04-2011

SB359, the Flouridation bill, will mandate the fluoridation of all Arkansas public water systems in cities with a population of over 5000. The Bill passed in the House and Senate and has been signed by the Governor of Arkansas.

The people of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Fort Smith, Arkansas, voted to not have fluoride added to their Public Water Supply in past years. This was a vote seriously considered at the time. State and city representatives brought this fact before the House committee reviewing Senate Bill 359 at the Arkansas capitol this past week on 3.01.11, requesting of them, in view of the people’s voice on the issue, to amend the cities out of the bill.  The committee refused and the people’s “vote” was discounted as null and void.

I understand that this is an issue that has great debate. The opposition to fluoridation is not something that has no scientific merit, though, as was directly implied at the House committee meeting as so stated in news releases at the time.

The research of US scientists and doctors, and of those world-wide bring to question a practice that has continued for so long. Many esteemed scientists, doctors, professors, and Nobel Laureates, all with most impressive credentials, have submitted research on the subject, and have spoken out and challenged the continued practice of adding fluoride to public water supplies.

Even as far back as 1936, there were concerns expressed by the ADA and AMA regarding fluoridation:

The Journal of the American Dental Association said (in 1936), "Fluoride at the 1 ppm [part per million] concentration is as toxic as arsenic and lead… There is an increasing volume of evidence of the injurious effects of fluorine, especially the chronic intoxication resulting from the ingestion of minute amounts of fluorine over long periods of time."

The Journal of the American Medical Association" noted (in its September 18, 1943 issue), "Fluorides are general protoplasmic poisons, changing the permeability of the cell membrane by certain enzymes."

"We do know that the use of drinking water containing as little as 1.2 to 3.0 parts per million of fluorine will cause such developmental disturbances in bones as osteosclerosis, spondylosis and osteopetrosis, as well as goiter, and we cannot afford to run the risk of producing such serious systemic disturbances in applying what is at present a doubtful procedure intended to prevent development of dental disfigurements." —Journal of the American Dental Association, October 1944

These are just three of so many similar quotes. Numerous recent scientific studies and research concur with these same findings of so many years ago. The research continues to be brought to the public.

Wishing you well…

Fluoride Discovered to Be a Neuro-Toxin Among Other Thngs

Fluoride is not a one size fits all "mass-medication" as Dr. Vyvyan Howard states in this video.

Fluoride combines with aluminum in drinking water and takes it through the blood-brain barrier into the brain. Dr. Russell Blaylock, MD, a neurosurgeon, spells out in chilling detail the danger fluoride poses to one's brain and health in general in his book Health and Nutrition Secrets that can Save Your Life (2002).

Should This Really Be Continued?

Ralph Nader on Water Fluoridation

"Scientific Attitudes Toward Fluoridation May Be Starting to Shift"

Wed Jan 2, 2008

NEW YORK, Jan. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "Some recent studies suggest that over-consumption of fluoride can raise the risks of disorders affecting teeth, bones, the brain and the thyroid gland," reports Scientific American editors January 2008). "Scientific attitudes toward fluoridation may be starting to
shift," writes author Dan Fagin.

"Fluoride, the most consumed drug in the USA, is deliberately added to 2/3 of public water supplies theoretically to reduce tooth decay, but with no scientifically-valid evidence proving safety or effectiveness," says lawyer Paul Beeber, President, New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation.

Fagin, award-winning environmental reporter and Director of New York University's Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program, writes, "There is no universally accepted optimal level for daily intake of fluoride." Some researchers even wonder whether the 1 mg/L added into drinking water is too much, reports Fagin.

After 3 years of scrutinizing hundreds of studies, a National Research Council (NRC) committee "concluded that fluoride can subtly alter endocrine function, especially in the thyroid -- the gland that produces hormones regulating growth and metabolism," reports Fagin.

Fagin quotes John Doull, professor emeritus of pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, who chaired the NRC committee thusly, "The thyroid changes do worry me."

Fluoride in foods, beverages, medicines and dental products can result in fluoride over-consumption, visible in young children as dental fluorosis -- white spotted, yellow, brown and/or pitted teeth. We can't normally see
fluoride's effects to the rest of the body.

Reports Fagin, "a series of epidemiological studies in China have associated high fluoride exposures with lower IQ."

"(E)pidemiological studies and tests on lab animals suggest that high fluoride exposure increases the risk of bone fracture, especially in vulnerable populations such as the elderly and diabetics," writes Fagin.

Fagin interviewed Steven Levy, director of the Iowa Fluoride Study which tracked about 700 Iowa children for sixteen years. Nine-year-old "Iowa children who lived in communities where the water was fluoridated were 50 percent more likely to have mild fluorosis... than [nine-year-old] children living in nonfluoridated areas of the state," writes Fagin. Levy will study fluoride's effects on their bones.

Over 1200 professionals urge Congress to cease water fluoridation and conduct Congressional hearings because scientific evidence indicates fluoridation is ineffective and has serious health risks. Support them; write your representative here:

Chronic Endemic Fluorosis Merino Sheep in Queensland

The Queensland Journals of Agricultural Science.

Merino sheep study reference to J. M. Harvey (1952)
J.M. Harvey, a Senior Government Chemist, described the health and economic impacts of fluorosis affecting merino sheep in a scholarly paper entitled “Chronic Endemic Fluorosis of Merino Sheep in Queensland.” This peer-reviewed paper was published in the Queensland Journal of Agricultural Science (vol. 9/Nr.2, p.47-138) under the auspices of The Queensland Department of Agriculture and Stock.
This scholarly paper is outstanding in its broad scope, thoroughness in execution, and attention to detail. It stands as a benchmark contribution on the affects of fluoride poisoning of merino sheep. Comparisons with human studies are valid because both species are placental mammals.
          J. M. Harvey (1952) demonstrated that fluoride poisoning of sheep is evidenced by shortened breeding lives for ewes, higher mortality of lambs (stillborn and post-natal), lower wool quality and yields, and also reduced meat production. Elevated levels of fluoride were found in the blood, thyroid, and kidneys.
J.M. Harvey attributed the poor health of the merino sheep mainly to impaired grazing efficiency, caused in turn by defective teeth. He reported abnormalities in shape, size, structure and hardness of teeth, together with jaw and skeletal bone deformities; the degree of severity is related to fluoride concentration in drinking water.
Amazingly, merino ewes’ milk did not exceed a low 0.2 ppm fluoride, even for sheep drinking water (~4.5 l/day) with up to 10 ppm F. This mirrors the fact that human mothers’ milk (~0.01 ppm F) discriminates strongly against toxic fluoride.
The Queensland Government has known about the health impacts of drinking fluoridated water for almost 60 years. In spite of this awareness, the Queensland Government stubbornly refuses to adopt a precautionary approach to fluoride toxicity.

Can Fluoride Affect Your Animal's Health?

We have heard over the years from the proponents of fluoridated water that it will benefit teeth. However, as we have learned from the research of the doctors in the videos, anything ingested can have an effect, good or bad, on the entire body. Our house pets and other animals are no different. Here is a video that you will want to watch if you are an animal lover...

Horses

February 24, 2008 — Justus's horses are found to be suffering from chronic fluoride poisoning from drinking fluoridated water. Study published in peer reviewed scientific literature. ARTIFICIAL WATER FLUORIDATION CAUSES FLUORIDE POISONING IN HORSES, Daniel G. Stockin, MPH. College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. August 30, 2005

There is a vast literature on fluoride poisoning in animals, especially in cattle. The sources of fluoride are emissions from aluminum, coal, and steel industries, phosphate fertilizer and feed supplements. The exposure is usually very heavy and the life-span relatively short. Now we have before us another situation in horses exposed to relatively low fluoride but for a very long time.

A community in Colorado fluoridated the water some 20 years ago in a concentration of 1.3 parts per million (ranging from 0.35 to 1.35). For a local Quarter Horse operation, from 6 to 10 horses, this was the only source of water. There were no phosphate fertilizer used or any phosphate supplements for the horses. Signs of fluoride poisoning started to appear after five years and included interference with reproduction, crooked leg bones. Blood analysis showed decreased levels of thyroid gland hormone.

Post-mortem examination of cannon-bones revealed pile-up of bone tissue on the inner surface (endostosis) and chemical analysis of dried bone confirmed the diagnosis of chronic dental fluorosis which grew worse with time and finally showed severe destruction of tooth-supporting bone. Over the years, 5 horses were killed because of progressive signs of chronic fluoride poisoning. The horses did not die in vain. They played a role in the successful campaign to discontinue artificial water fluoridation in the community. The lesson to be learned is obvious: prevent fluoride poisoning by NOT fluoridating the water. See Report by Daniel G Stockin. Click Here.

Nobel Laureate: Dr. Arvid Carlsson and His Thoughts on Fluoride

"I would advise against fluoridation. Individual prophylaxis (treatment) is preferable on principle grounds and is as equally effective," says Dr. Arvid Carlsson of Sweden, co-winner of last year's Nobel Prize for medicine.

Dr. Arvid Carlsson

Carlsson was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of how brain cells transmit signals to each other, laying the groundwork for improved treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders.

He says fluoridation will harm some people and is not considered a proper health-care measure in his home country.

"Fluoridation of water supplies would also treat people who may not benefit from the treatment. Side-effects cannot be excluded and, thus, some people might only have negative effects without any benefit."

"In Sweden, water fluoridation, to my knowledge, is no longer advocated by anybody. In Sweden, the emphasis nowadays is to keep the environment as clean as possible with regard to pharmacologically active and, thus, potentially toxic substances."

Carlsson's concern regarding the dangers of fluoridation echo the worries of University of Toronto dental professor Dr. Hardy Limeback. Previously a supporter of fluoridation, he is now Canada's most highly regarded opponent of fluoridation.

Dr. Limeback says he believes ingested fluoride is not greatly effective, fluoridation leads to dental fluorosis from excessive fluoride levels and personal treatment is a safer way to administer fluoride.

How Much Fluoride Are Our Childen Actually Getting from Different Sources?

How much fluoride are we actually ingesting from various sources besides fluoridated water? What do some experts say about this substance? Can it be too much?  Here is the first of three videos that sheds some light on this important question that should be of interest to everyone.

Have a great day...

What Do Experts Say about Fluoridated Water?

Here is a very interesting News Broadcast by Australian Media on the subject:
Fluoride "a social experiment started 40 years ago"

Welcome to My Blog...

Water is vital for life. You are 70% plus water. It is a substance that no one can live without. There is a quote by Pindar that states: "The noblest of the elements is water."  How true! It is a most precious commodity around the world.

Do you know what is in your water? Do you live in an area where fluoride is added to your water or is being proposed to be added to your public water supply?

I realize that this can be a very controversial topic. Those who object to fluoride are treated as conspiracy theorists or called just plain ignorant, among other choice references I won't repeat here.

However, could there possibly be a real validity to question this practice of adding fluoride into our water supplies which has been done for well over 50 years and that so many people simply accept as being good for them?  There is a generally accepted belief that the reason it has been added is because it is beneficial for the teeth, especially for our children and grandchildren. Could fluoride, though,  have a negative effect on the body in ways that the populace is not generally aware of? And, could there be a logical reason why even a Nobel Prize winner for medicine believes and deems it unnecessary to be put into the public water supply? He and many other notable, respected, and prestigious scholars, doctors, and scientists around the world have some very interesting thoughts on fluoride of which I will share here.

In view of the fact that many households in the US and throughout the world that have this substance coming into their home everyday, without having any choice in the matter, through the water that we all need and depend upon supplied by the public water system in their own city, the subject may well be worth some serious consideration.  You may be surprised, and perhaps even shocked at what you may learn, and then you be the judge.

Until next time... Take care.
